Christmas Hill Climb 2017
It was a cold, very windy day for our Christmas social hill climb event….perfect for congregating at the windiest spot on the Island! 19 hardy Wheelers turned out to take part in the event, supported by several other Wheelers who took care of the timekeeping and organisation. Several Wheelers embraced the fancy dress theme – Captain Jack Sparrow, Duracell Man, and the French Franks’ bike with basket on front, certainly got into the spirit of the occasion! Others focused on huddling under blankets trying to find some shelter from the icy wind, brrrrrr!!
The Wheelers were set off at short intervals with the aim of getting from Alum Bay car park to the top of the Battery as fast as possible. The first 20 metres of the climb were fine, but the wind hit as soon as the first corner was turned and pretty much stayed with the riders to the top – not a day for PR’s!
Top rider of the day was James Veal, closely followed by Jason Hayles and then the youngster of the group, Thomas Horton – well done to all riders, a stirling effort on a very cold day! The results can be seen by clicking on the link below:
